Why End Daylight Savings Time is a Never Ending Debate
For more than a century now, we have seen the use of the Daylight Saving Time, popularly known as DST. Let us see some of the arguments there have been leveled as for and against this tradition. One thing that you need to acknowledge is that more than one third of the American population indeed appreciates the need for DST. So why end daylight savings time anyway? The following is a look at some of the facts behind DST.
As a matter of fact, we need to be clear on the fact that the change of the clocks settings will not create extra daylight in and of itself but all it achieves is to cause the time on the clock at which the sun will set to be a later time. As such when we spring forward by an hour as it is often during the spring season, we add an hour of natural daylight to the afternoon schedule. One advantage of this is looking at the fact that the longer evenings tend to encourage more to get out of the house for their recreational needs and as such counter the effects of the sedentary lifestyle that we tend to be leading nowadays. Besides this, they as well argue that this as well boosts the economy as the longer evenings allows many to go shopping benefiting such establishments as tourism and restaurants.
But as a matter of fact, one of the things that you need to know of is that when it comes to the negatives is the fact that this doesn’t quite see savings in energy and this is one of the prime motives that saw the establishment of the whole idea. By far and large, there are some of the states that have reported on the contrary an increase in their energy consumption following the introduction of the DST such as it has been in Indiana as there is such a high dependence on some of the energy consuming devices in the home such as air conditioning systems, TVs and appliances plus many more as such making this whole idea one that may not quite result in the intended purpose but one that needs to be brought to an end all at once.
You need to as well note the fact that the adjusting of the time by an hour back and forth over the seasons as well is not as healthy for the body looking at the fact that they happen to disrupt the body’s circadian rhythm.
